Peters to Run ARCA 200 at DIS for RCR

WELCOME, N.C. (Feb. 7, 2007) -- Timothy Peters won’t be going to California to get his first competitive seat time this year in a Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Chevrolet.

Peters will drive RCR’s No. 31 Okuma/Cometic Chevrolet in the Feb. 10 ARCA Re/Max Series ARCA 200 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Last October at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, in his first-ever race for RCR, Peters qualified 12th in the No. 31 Okuma Chevrolet for the Food World 250 ARCA race. He ran with the leaders until a flat tire slowed his progress and he finished 17th.

The Danville, Va., native is scheduled to split the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series schedule with two-time and reigning champion Kevin Harvick in the No. 21 AutoZone Chevrolet. He will begin his quest to become the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year on Feb. 24 in the Stater Bros. 300 at California Speedway.

“I raced in the Truck Series last February at Daytona and it was pretty intense at times,” said Peters. “We are bringing a different car to Daytona than what I ran last October at Talladega. We shook down the car a couple of weeks ago and everything went well. That gives us confidence heading into this weekend. I’m just excited about the opportunity to go racing again.”

Peters started 28th and finished 12th in last year’s NASCAR Truck Series season opener at Daytona.

Bobby Leslie will be the crew chief for the program and the over-the-wall crew for RCR’s No. 31 Cingular Wireless NASCAR Cup Series team will pit the car.

Richard Childress Racing (www.rcrracing.com) has earned more than 150 victories and 10 NASCAR championships, including six in the NEXTEL Cup Series with the legendary Dale Earnhardt. It was the first organization to win championships in the NEXTEL Cup Series, Busch Series and Truck Series. Its 2007 NEXTEL Cup Series lineup includes Clint Bowyer (No. 07 Jack Daniel’s), Kevin Harvick (No. 29 Shell) and Jeff Burton (No. 31 Cingular Wireless). Its Busch Series lineup includes Clint Bowyer (No. 2 BB&T), Harvick and Timothy Peters (No. 21 AutoZone) and Burton and Scott Wimmer (No. 29 Holiday Inn).
